Neighbourhood Circles

In 2020 Julia Farr MS McLeod Benevolent Fund co-funded a project with Community Living Project to amplify, replicate, advocate and support neighbourhood initiatives to strengthen the models for more inclusive communities. Over two years, the project connected with a wide range of community-led activities across Adelaide to map existing activities and to identify the critical success factors that make activities inclusive to all. The project connected community leaders to each other via a summit, face to face events and through a Facebook group.

The project reports profile some of the activities taking place in Adelaide communities and identify key habits of successful community activities, including the importance of actively welcoming all participants, people having valued roles as active participants and contributors, and the importance of frequent engagement to building connection, belonging and ownership of the activity.

The reports also identify the physical and non-physical barriers limiting people living with disability’s engagement in community activities.

Our Inclusive Neighbourhoods grants program looks to build on the work of the Neighbourhood Circles project.
